About

Ponds built to be kept up

Percy Burrell started Burrell Water Gardens after building his own pond and learning how much of the work comes after the last stone is set. The company builds ponds, streams and waterfalls around Naperville, and most of its visits are the ordinary ones: opening, cleaning and closing.

Cassandra Burrell books the visits and keeps the notes on every pond, so whoever turns up has read what happened last time.

  • Ponds, streams, waterfalls and fountains

  • Opening, cleanout and closing visits

  • A written note after every visit

The crew

Eight people, four you'll hear from

Three more technicians and a bookkeeper make eight. These are the four you'll talk to.

  • Percy Burrell

    Owner

Designs the new ponds and walks most first visits.

  • Cassandra Burrell

    Scheduling and pond notes

Books the visits, keeps the notes on every pond, and answers the phone.

  • Xavier Clemons

    Technician lead

Leads openings and closings and runs the spring cleanouts.

  • Sophie Pearson

    Technician lead

Leads cleanouts and repairs, and finds the leaks.

How we work

Four habits

  • We say what we find

A cracked liner or a worn pump goes in the note, with a photo, whether or not we're the ones fixing it.

  • We call before we dig

811 locates utilities before any ground is broken.

  • We keep notes on every pond

Depth, pump, filter, fish and what we found last time, on file for the next visit.

  • We hand electrical work to electricians

Pumps and lights are plugged into outlets a licensed electrician has checked.

Come and see the pond

We'll walk the yard with you, or just the pond you already have.
